I guess after having a blog for a while, you do sound a bit repetitive.
I’m sure that I have blogged about something like this before. But I’m just too lazy to go through the achieves to find it to achieve the self indulgent links.
Imagine my surprise when I saw the latest ad on TV put out by the Queensland Government. The ad is part of the road safety campaign. I agree that it is something that should be talked about and where a campaign should run. My gripe is about the use of the standard “I am now disabled and my life sucks line”. I hate it because there are children who have grown into adults who have disabilities who don’t need to be put down on TV and told that there life is anything but worthwhile and fulfilling. This is not on. There is a bigger picture here. It’s not the message to send.
I noticed the comments in Tegan’s story calling her an inspiration. I’m sure putting her story out there is inspiring. I’m just not sure it’s the right message to put out there in the TV ad. I don’t want to feel sorry for her. And I don’t want anyone to feel sorry for my son based on what they have watched on TV.
The shame of all this is that if you watch the footage on her story page, I really think that she is an inspiration. I just wish that they hadn’t cut those parts out of the ad.
End of rant.
